1) I chose to read “Grinding It Out: The Making of McDonald’s” about Ray Kroc
a) What surprised me the most was that he didn’t enjoy school and that he spent most of his life for a paper cup company.
b) What I admire about him is that even though he was quite old, he decided to start a new chapter in his life by purchasing McDonald’s whereas other people might have planned for retirement instead.
c) The thing that I least admire about him is how he didn’t prioritize his family and the way he managed his relationship with his family.
d) He faced a lot of adversities in his life. In his early days playing piano was his only source of income and then he had issues relating to the paper cup company and Multimixer.
2) He had really good observation skills and had great commitment.
3) I think that the deal about the paper cup company getting 60% of Multimixer was a bit confusing.
4) I would like to ask him if he regretted any of the decisions he made and also how he stayed motivated to continue what he was doing during adversities. I think that answers to these questions really help shape the character of an entrepreneur and so I would like to know the answer to these questions.
5) I think that he believed in consistently putting in efforts and working hard and I completely agree with his opinion on this.
Hey Tarang,
ReplyDeleteI too find it strange how Ray Kroc managed his family relationships. I have been reading a lot about him though reading other people's blog posts, and I realized something about entrepreneurs in general. I realized that most very successful entrepreneurs come off as somewhat strange people in the ways that they interact with others. For example, I read about Steve Jobs, and people have very, mixed opinions about him. Many view him as their idol, yet many people, especially Apple employees at the time, found him to be rude and even condescending at times. It's interesting to see how these personality traits actually end up helping them be successful, as even negative traits can help people in certain situations.
Hi Tarang,
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting to read that Ray Kroc became involved in McDonald’s when most people are planning to retire. It seems as if he was dedicated and committed to business and finances, especially as you mentioned that he was more focused on that than his own family. I also did not know that he faced problems with income earlier on, as now McDonald’s is incredibly successful today.
